Previously on Futari wa Pretty Cure Dragon...
Nicola received a call from Principal Mazda.
"Nicola, thank goodness you were able to answer! Letters of challenge just keep appearing left and right; I don't know when they'll stop."
"I personally hope they stop with me. Thirteen obviously doesn't know who he's dealing with."
"At this point, it's safe to say you're right. I just learned that Jubei managed to outwit him with a game of Three Card Monty armed with only tarot cards and the ancient art of onmyodo."
"That onmyodo is potent stuff; I hear it's not to be messed with."
"I assure you, you may have been watching too many movies. But yes, I'll agree that Jubei Yagyu is second only to Abe no Shimei when it comes to onymodo. Anyway, stay on alert for Thirteen in case he dares to send another letter of challenge."
"Understood. See you later."
Nicola hung up.
OP: "Danzen! Futari wa Pretty Cure Dragon ~hybrid version~"
"Nicola Terry contra Tredici - Nicola Terry vs. Thirteen"
Yep, another letter of challenge came in.
Once again, it was found in Ryan Lee's shoe locker. "Unbelievable! Not only does Thirteen have the power to turn us all into zombies, he's also wearing us out and ruining the series for the viewers!"
Rica said, "Yeah, I'll agree that this sort of behavior is getting tiresome. I mean, who'd take a villain seriously anymore when he prolongs the ending like that?"
Ryan said, "This time, it appears to be a bit more serious than the last."
The text of the message ran thus:
Meet me at the old power plant this Sunday at high noon. Directly involve only yourselves and Nicola Terry. Failure to accept this challenge will result in a Super Bowl-scale blackout of Millennium City. Your archnemesis, Thirteen
Kelly asked, "Is it just me, or is Thirteen trivializing the Bowl blackout that happened last Sunday?"
Rica said, "I have reason to believe he was the one that did it. The question is, how the hell could he have gone from here to the Deep South that quickly?"
Susan said, "Beats me. Ryan probably knows more about the subject than I do."
"Yeah, leave it to the limey to answer any and all of your questions. Pah! It's not like he's a know-it-all. In fact, he told me just yesterday that he's got a lot to learn about the movies."
Ryan said, "Rica's right, Susan. I don't know diddly about electrical setups except the basics, nor do I know jack squat about the topic of teleportation."
Kelly said, "Whatever. Let's report this to Principal Mazda and then deliver it to Nicola Terry. He needs to know that he got challenged by Thirteen."
Ryan walked up to Principal Mazda's office. "Yep. Another letter of challenge from Thirteen. This time, it looks to be a bit more serious than the earlier ones."
Principal Mazda took the letter of challenge and read it. "OK, now he's trying to get to us in more ways than one."
"I know. Does Nicola Terry know he's just been challenged?"
Principal Mazda then proceeded to dial Nicola's number.
"Nicola, I've got some news for you…"
"What news? I'd like to know if it's important."
"It is. I just needed to check that Thirteen or whoever that hulking figure on my security camera feed last week was didn't bug my phone."
"It's all right now?"
"So… what's the news?"
"Thirteen has sent you a letter of challenge."
"I know. I got it right here."
"The one Pretty Cure got says, 'Meet me at the old power plant this Sunday at high noon. Directly involve only yourselves and Nicola Terry. Failure to accept this challenge will result in a Super Bowl-scale blackout of Millennium City. Your archnemesis, Thirteen'."
"Funny, the letter of challenge I got says something similar. And I get the feeling that this is a prank. I mean, it sounds like Thirteen's trivializing last Sunday's Super Bowl blackout."
"That may be, but with a threat sounding as drastic as a city-wide blackout, it's extremely urgent that we take this letter of challenge very seriously, perhaps moreso than we should."
"I understand. Sunday, high noon, old power plant. Got it."
"Hope you have a nice day, Nicola."
Principal Mazda hung up. "Yeah, he's got the letter already."
Ryan said, "Nice to know. Thanks, Principal Mazda!"
"You're welcome, Mr. Lee. You may go."
Ryan curtsied before leaving.
Re-reading the letter of challenge, Nicola muttered, "At this point, I don't know if Thirteen's the sharpest tool in the shed of evil. What I do know is that this is becoming much more serious as this progresses… regresses… whatever."
Picking up the handle of his laser sword, he said, "In any case, I've got to be prepared. I sense something very fishy about this."
Susan, Rica, and Kelly were waiting for Ryan outside. Rica asked, "Does Nicola Terry know that Thirteen challenged him?"
Ryan said, "Yes. Yes, he does."
Kelly said, "We should be prepared ourselves, in the event that the power plant is more dangerous than it looks."
Rica said, "Kelly's right; always prepare for any eventuality that might happen."
Ryan asked, "What could happen?"
Rica said, "Falls, electrocutions, machinery… anything that has the slightest danger potential, we need to look out for."
Susan asked, "So what do you suppose we do?"
That night, they went to the power plant. It was as old and rusty as they had imagined; it was also just as dangerous.
Ryan asked, "Anyone around here know more about electricity than I?"
Susan said, "Shut up and pay attention."
This took Ryan aback. Susan had never spoken to him so sharply before. What was going on?
He had no time to think as Susan marched around the power plant and messed around with the equipment, wearing protective gloves left behind by the last workers. Her tinkering with each type of equipment was shown once.
Susan said, "You see? My uncle was one of the last workers here; his untimely death in an unavoidable accident caused this power plant's shutdown. He took me here once and taught me all about the equipment."
Rica's eyes widened. "Shut up!"
Ryan said, "I knew there was something up with you right now…"
Susan said, "I just… seem to remember this place from my youth. This place made me remember my dear departed uncle."
Kelly said, "Now I get it. You want to be an electrician when you grow up, huh?"
"No, Kelly. What I thought was a useless talent finally showed the full extent of its usefulness."
"Don't you mean uselessness?"
"No. You heard me right. Your ears do not deceive. You see, if you hang around someone long enough, you're bound to be surprised."
Ryan said, "Now there's a good example of philosophy."
Kelly asked, "So what do we do now?"
Rica said, "When the time comes, we show up and rendezvous with Nicola Terry here. Then, when Thirteen comes, he'll get a nasty surprise."
Ryan asked, "What kind of surprise?"
Rica said, "He'll be shocked to find out."
Sure enough, the day came. Thirteen arrived at the power plant and started looking for the Cures and Nicola.
"I know you're in there; come on out, wherever you are, and nobody gets hurt or loses power!"
He kept looking. It lasted a minute. Finally, he gave up.
"Very well. If you're not here, I'll just have to send this town into the dark ages! Starting today, their nights will be pitch black!"
Thirteen stepped up to the lever and pulled it. He took a high voltage of electricity. Ryan, Susan, Rica, Kelly, and Nicola emerged from their hiding places at once. Ryan remarked, "And we thought his wicked heart didn't turn out to be ugly enough."
Yes, the electricity managed to deform Thirteen further--he now had a bunch of blisters on his skin, and his nose became much more crooked. "WHY!? WHY DIDN'T THE POWER GO OUT!?"
Susan said, "Useless talent number 60: maintenance of electrical equipment at this power plant. It helps to have a relative who worked here until a fatal accident claimed his life and caused this power plant to shut down."
Thirteen snarled, "You sneaky bitch!"
Kelly yelled, "You're not going to get away this time!"
Ryan and Susan got out their own working laser swords and activated them. Nicola, seeing where this was headed, threw two more laser swords--one to Rica, the other to Kelly. Rica's glowed purple, and Kelly's glowed green. Nicola said, "You're going to need them."
He then activated his own. Thirteen said, "You underestimate me. When you zapped me, you caused a further mutation."
As he said this, he removed his cloak to reveal two additional arms. "The electricity screwed with my genes and caused me to grow two more arms, so I can fight several of your magic laser swords at once!"
He activated four laser swords, each colored green and blue. "Surely you realize you're doomed?"
Nicola said, "I don't think so."
Ryan, Susan, and Kelly prepped their transformers, holding their laser swords in one hand and their transformers in the other. "Dual fighting spirit!"
"Bodyguard, come forth!"
"The golden warrior, I am Cure Dragon!"
"The silver warrior, I am Cure Fortune!"
"Together we're Pretty Cure!"
"Evil warriors of ill fortune…"
"We shall send you packing!"
"Protecting my friends, I am Cure Fang! Let those who worship evil's might beware my power! The bodyguard's light!"
The clash of lasers began almost instantaneously. After about a minute, they found themselves fighting on platforms above the ground. Everyone had to be careful, or someone would fall to their deaths completely by accident.
As the height rose, so did the stakes. Cure Dragon was knocked off a platform once, but fortunately for him, there was another below. He rejoined the fight just as quickly.
The fight continued for a couple more minutes in that regard. Then, all of a sudden, Thirteen caught Nicola off guard. He knocked the blade of his laser sword upwards, startling him, and would've run him through then and there if not for the interference of Cure Fang.
She blocked his thrust and knocked his laser sword out of his hand. She watched as it plummeted to the ground.
"I suppose you know more about laser sword fighting than the rest of us? I bet that evil has clogged your brain to the point where you have no capacity for learning about jack squat!"
She knocked another laser sword out of his hand just as he tried to run Cure Fortune through. "You're dealing with a force you cannot comprehend, Thirteen."
Thirteen bellowed, "YOU'RE THE ONE WHO CAN'T COMPREHEND ME!"
He then tried to slice Cure Dragon up. Cure Fang managed to destroy the laser sword that tried to do that, too. "You know, there's a reason why we're good at fighting with laser swords: because we're smart enough to learn how to do so the right way! And our minds! Are not! Cluttered! By! Your! Evil!"
Thirteen looked around and decided to use his last remaining laser sword to kill Rica. Both she and Cure Fang saw that coming, though, and countered swiftly, with Cure Fang holding Thirteen back long enough for Rica to slice that last sword.
Cure Fang said, "There are two things I'm afraid you'll never realize, Thirteen. The most famous is Thou shalt not kill, but only slightly less well-known is Ezekiel 25:17. It sort of fits the occasion.
"The path of the righteous man and defender is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the father of lost children.
"And I will execute great vengeance upon thee with furious anger, you who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers and sisters; and you will know that I am Chiba the Bodyguard when I lay my vengeance upon thee!
"PRETTY CURE! LIGHT OF JUSTICE!"
The light blinded Thirteen yet again. Nicola kicked him off the platform and jumped off. "Now who can't comprehend who, Thirteen?"
Rica and Pretty Cure followed Nicola quickly. Cure Fang said, "Get him out quickly, before he tries to tamper with the equipment so he can shut down Millennium City properly."
Indeed, Thirteen tried to get up and run toward the machinery. Cures Dragon and Fortune, though, had other ideas. "GOLD THUNDER!"
"SILVER THUNDER! We who are different as day and night…"
"Do join together and combine our might!"
"PRETTY CURE METAL PUNCH!"
Thirteen was thrown out through one of the windows.
After the Cures detransformed, Ryan said, "Susan, time to put things back the way we found them a few days ago."
Susan put on the protective gloves and pushed the lever back into its usual spot before setting off to return the machines to their original condition.
Mina was in the middle of a discussion with Jubei about these events.
"It's a wonder they survived such an electric death trap. What if Thirteen goes for me and Emmy at the garbage dump?"
"Why? What's the danger with a garbage dump, Mina?"
"Incinerators, that's what! They're white hot, and they can burn you if you get too close to them."
"Oh. Forgot about them."
"Anyway, Valentine's Day is coming up. It would be genuinely creepy if Thirteen were to challenge the old and new Cures on that day."
Jubei paused briefly before saying, "Oh. That's when you discovered your new ally, wasn't it?"
"Yes. Name of Helen Masuo. The first Cure Fang."
"Well, let me know if there's anything fishy going on, OK?"
Mina got up and said, "With pleasure."
She left the office.
